Godspell 40th Anniversary CD re-issue

I just read that a 2 CD set of the remastered version of the Godspell original cast recording and the soundtrack is being released after Labor Day. Who did the remastering/remixing? I have always disliked the mix on the 1990 CD version of the original cast. The original cast album won a Grammy and then to have someone change the CD mixes so that they don't match the original LP was plain wrong. It was obvious that Stephen wasn't present for the CD mixes! There has been a whole generation that has never heard the original mixes! (The two biggest differences are guitar solos added to Prepare Ye and Day By Day Reprise that did not appear on the original)

Will the new CDs have the original mixes? Will there be anything added? I have always hoped for a recording of Paul Schafers organ solo from the end credits of the film.

I am glad Godspell is getting a needed sonic overhaul.

Dear Tom: Thanks for your question, but I have to admit I don't know who has done the re-mastering or (if there has been any) the remixing for the Godspell re-releases. (To be frank, I didn't know the 1990 CD had been remixed nor that anything had been added.) I don't know which versions Sony worked from this time, and as far as I know, there hasn't been anything added. There was talk about including a new recording of the revised version of "Beautiful City", since I much prefer that version to the one on the original film soundtrack, but I don't know if Sony has managed to get it together to do that. If all of the above sounds as if I haven't had anything to do with this re-release, other than provide some liner notes with a historical perspective, that's because I haven't.
